Ingredients

60% Hermetia Illucens (Black Soldier Fly), 25% Fresh Fruit/Vegetables (8% Cooked Sweet Potato, 5% Broccoli, 5% Pineapple, 5% Raspberry, 5% Carrot), 7% Honey, 4% Yoghurt, 1% Lico Micro Mineral Mix (Algae Lime, Brewer's Yeast, Seaweed Meal, Malt Seeds, Grape Seed Extract)

Black Soldier Flies (BSF) best known for being an excellent source of protein. They don't create protein themselves, rather, they process protein from the things they eat. BSF contain up to 43% of protein and are rich in calcium and other nutrients. BSF is not only a more sustainable alternative, but is also healthier and more nutritious than mainstream sources of animal protein, such as beef, lamb, chicken, or even fish. BSF larvae are a source of high-quality protein and other nutrients, including essential amino acids, unsaturated fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins.

Black Soldier Fly (BSF) is considered a "Novel" protein for dog foods, meaning that is a relatively new protein source and therefore few intolerances towards BSF have developed in canines. It is because of this that we can consider our insect-based dog foods as 'hypoallergenic'. If your dog suffers from allergies or intolerances towards traditional protein sources such as chicken and beef, or if they suffer from a sensitive stomach, we recommend trying this insect meal. Symptoms of allergies or intolerances can include unpleasant digestive issues, poor skin and coat health, and lack of energy or vitality.

The high-quality protein and other nutrients in BSF larvae are expected to offer specific benefits to the health and wellbeing of cats and dogs. Preliminary research indicates that BSF larvae and BSF meal have excellent anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and hypoallergenic properties. BSF larvae-derived ingredients also contain the polysaccharide chitin, which is the primary component of the developing exoskeletons. As the indigestible fraction of the larvae, chitin functions as prebiotic dietary fiber, which supports good gut health and acts an effective reinforcement against digestive disorders.

Feeding Guidelines

Feed 2-3% of the dog's ideal body weight daily, ideally spread over two meals. We recommend feeding any dogs over the age of 6 months twice a day. Depending on the breed and the age of your puppy, they can move to adult ratios, larger puppies can move over sooner but still feed puppy rations until they are fully grown.

  • Step #1: Preparation

Once you're ready, take out your pet's meal from the refrigerator. Only serve when completely thawed - Frozen foods can be difficult for animals to digest. Never microwave any pet food. This takes a bit of foresight, but once you're used to the new diet it becomes very easy to remember when to take out new portions to thaw!

  • Step #2: Serving

Once your pup's meal is fully thawed it's time for feeding! Feed an appropriate portion to your dog, preferably in a separate bowl. We recommend a stainless steel bowl as it can easily be cleaned. Other materials, such as plastic, are porous and can trap germs over time. Remove any unconsumed food (if there is any!) within 20 minutes.

Storage & Handling

Storage

Keep raw-frozen products frozen until ready to use. Our raw-frozen products should be stored frozen at -18°C in the freezer. Before feeding, should be thawed in the refrigerator. We recommend you allow 2 days for the meals to fully thaw before feeding. Freshly opened products should be stored in the refrigerator and fed within 72 hours.

Safe Handling

Wash all work surfaces, utensils, hands, and food bowls with hot, soapy water after handling raw meats and poultry. Keep raw meat and poultry away from children and separate from other foods. It’s important to clean your pet's bowl after each meal, which is why we recommend using a bowl that can easily be sanitized. Wash your hands and your pet's bowl with warm soapy water after each feeding.
